If there’s one rainy day activity that my 4-year-old can never get enough of, it’s playing with playdough! I love how it enhances fine motor skills and encourages his creativity and imagination.
I find playdough so calming – for both myself and my kiddo! Children are actually known to work out their stress through their hands, which is why playdough is such a popular activity with the little ones.
Rather than buying multiple tubs of playdough from the toy store, why not make your own? Just down below, I’ve got the perfect (and easiest!) DIY Playdough that you can whip-up in your very own kitchen.
Ingredients:
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour, for each color desired
- 1 ⅛ teaspoon cream of tartar, for each color desired
- 3 ½ tablespoons salt, for each color desired
- ¾ cup water, for each color desired
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, for each color desired
- Food coloring (gel food coloring yields brighter colors)
Directions:
Add all dry ingredients in a medium pot: flour, cream of tartar, and salt. Mix well.
Stir in water, vegetable oil, and food coloring.
Place the pot over medium heat. Stir constantly.
Once the dough comes together as a ball (the liquid should have also absorbed), transfer it to either waxed, freezer, or parchment paper.
While the dough is still warm but cool to the touch, knead until completely smooth. This should take about 2 minutes.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three months.
