Feeling like you need a vacation but just can’t get away? If you can’t get to the beach, the next best thing is an at-home Luau! This would also be a fun idea to celebrate a Moana-themed birthday. This is part of my Luau Series, so don’t forget to check out my pineapple drink cans… and I have a couple of other ones coming soon as well!
This DIY Palm Tree Centerpiece would also be great for a beach-themed or pool party (be sure to pin the image above for later on the down the road, post-COVID, when parties are back in style)!
In this post, I’ll be providing you with clear, easy-to-follow directions as well as a free SVG file for this project as well, so you can make this gorgeous paper craft yourself!
Materials and Tools Needed:
- Cricut (or another cutting machine)
- Green card stock (8.5×11” 65-80lb)
- Cricut blue light or green standard grip mat
- VOSS water bottle
- Kraft paper
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
- Palm Tree SVG Cut File (FREE)
Directions:
Upload the free SVG Palm Tree Centerpiece files to Design Space. Select the layer with the set of files. Click on “Attach” on the layers panel and then hit “Make it to Cut” files as “Normal.”
Adjust the material dial or setting to “Medium Card Stock.” Load your card stock onto your blue or green grip mat. Hit “Go.”
For the next step, cut your Kraft paper into strips, about one inch wide. (Don’t worry about them being absolutely perfect. The ridges on the trunk of a palm tree are never perfect!) Wrap and layer the Kraft paper strips around the VOSS water bottle. Use a hot glue gun to glue down and secure.
Once the bottle is completely wrapped, begin assembling the palm leaves.
* To assemble, follow the screen shots – use them as a guide! The grooves on the palm leaves fit each other so that they can be built the correct way.
* The grooves that sit on the lip of the bottle were designed specifically to work with VOSS-type water bottles.
Once the leaves have been assembled, the project is complete.
