Are you a constant home baker? I don’t blame you! I’m constantly whipping something up in the kitchen, with my apron on, sleeves rolled… I can’t help it that I have such a big sweet tooth!
If you always find yourself baking-up sweet treats, you’ll notice that you’re in constant need of key ingredients in your pantry: flour, baking powder, baking soda, etc. Vanilla extract is no exception and today, I’m here to teach you how to make your very own homemade batch.
And lately the cost of vanilla extract is upwards of $30 a bottle! That’s insane! So, I thought it was time to learn how to make it myself.
My Instant Pot Vanilla Extract recipe is extremely easy to put together. Not only is it cost effective, but you’ll find that homemade vanilla extract is much tastier than those bottles you find at the store. This batch will take you a long way in your baking endeavors!
Ingredients:
- 6Â vanilla beans, preferably grade B
- 6 cups vodka
- 1 cup water
- 3 canning jars
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 1 hr, 30 minutes
Total time: 1 hr. 35 minutes
Instructions:
Using a sharp paring knife, cut each vanilla bean in half down the middle, vertically.
Pour 2 cups of vodka to each of the canning jars.
For each canning jar, take 2 vanilla beans and fold them in half and insert into the filled jar.
Pour water into the inner pot of the Instant Pot. Place trivet at the base of it.
Close each of the canning jars with a metal lid and place carefully onto the trivet.
Place lid on the Instant Pot and seal the valve.
Set the IP on manual high pressure for one hour. Once the time is up, allow for a natural pressure release – this should take about 20 minutes.
Allow the vanilla extract to sit for at least 24 hours before use. Make sure to keep in an airtight glass jar in a dark, cool room when not using.
